Tanzania eye victory in the friendly to improve their FIFA ranking as well as lay ground for next year’s CHAN qualifiers.
Author: James MomanyiRwanda Football Federation (Ferwafa) have named a 27-man provisional squad to start preparations for the international friendly match against Tanzania on August 12 in Kigali. The team will be using the game to prepare for the 2010 World Cup/CAN qualifier against Egypt on September 5 while Tanzanian Taifa Stars will be using the match to maintain their rhythm ahead of next year’s Africa Nation Championship (CHAN) qualifiers, in addition to improving their FIFA rankings. However, Amavubi Stars head coach Branko Tucak is yet to return from his native Croatia where he went for a holiday after last month’s disastrous 3-0 loss to Egypt. Rwanda have done little favour to aid their hopes of qualifying for next year’s World Cup and Africa Nations Cup after managing just a point from a possible nine. After being held to a goalless draw in their opening qualifier against Algeria, Amavubi crumbled to back-to-back defeats against Zambia (1-0) and Egypt (3-0). After the Tanzania encounter, Amavubi will play two friendlies against DR Congo before facing Egypt in decisive match for the World Cup/Africa Cup of Nations qualifier.
