The main airport in Dar es Salaam, Julius Nyerere International Airport is the biggest in Tanzania, and is also on course to become the largest in the whole of East Africa. In a joint venture between the Tanzanian government and China, the airport is currently being redeveloped and modernised, making it East Africa’s largest.
There is an information counter on the concourse of Terminal 2 (tel: 2228 44212) and a further one in Terminal 1 (tel: 2228 44095).
There are no shuttle services, but taxis are available to ferry passengers between the two terminals. Terminal 1 caters for general aviation and charter services, while Terminal 2 caters for international airlines, regional and scheduled flights.
The airport access road is reached from Nyerere Road, formerly known as Pugu Road, which connects to central Dar es Salaam.
Public Transport
Buses: City buses are easily accessed from Dar es Salaam Julius Nyerere International Airport, with stops located 500m (600 yards) from the terminal. Services run 24 hours, and the 30-minute (minimum) ride to the city centre costs around TZS 400. Many hotels have shuttle services for their guests.
Taxi: Airport taxis are available for hire to any destination in the city. Travellers are advised to negotiate a price before setting off, as taxis are not metered.
Terminal facilities
There are banks, ATMs and a bureau de change at the airport.

There are three restaurants at Dar es Salaam Julius Nyerere International Airport, one in the public area, and two in Departures.
There are both duty-paid and duty-free shops within the terminals, as well as several gift shops and a pharmacy.
A lost and found desk is located in the arrivals lounge. Porters are available to assist with luggage.
Several travel agents operate at the airport.

Free car parking is available in front of Terminal 1. Parking is charged at the busier Terminal 2.
Car hire is available from Tanzania Rent a Car and Avis at the airport (desks are in the Arrivals area). Alternatives can be arranged in town.
